Legally Blonde Returns

So I have finally returned.

To the impatient person who asked why I hadn't posted my results, I suggest you read below where I stated I would be away for six weeks looking at the world. As much as I have a soft spot for my lovely readers, I hate to tell you that updating my blawg was not my top priority when the other choice was sightseeing and shopping.

I did get my results, they weren't as good as I would have liked, I only managed a Commendation which I am not happy about but seeing how badly I felt many of my exams went at the time, I suppose I can't really complain. However it is all over now so there is no need to discuss it any further.

I have just finished Harry Potter and cried. Now I must start actually organising my life having been away from it for so long. I will update you on my journey soon enough. Patience children.

Yay, you're back! Hope you enjoyed the US of A, Susie. And congrats on results!

HP was great; sad that it's over now, though. Awaiting the Facebook photos of your wonderful roadtrip!

As I sit here bored at work (i am a trainee at a large city firm) i thought i would write something, if not just to pass some time!

I came across your blog a while ago, and found it relatively amusing and well written. Although I should say that at times, like now, I am not too busy and find myself browsing the internet looking for anything to read to while away the hours; therefore my threshold for what is entertaining drops very low!

Anyhow...I have read throughout the year about your enthusiasm and passion for the work on the GDL and how much time you spent revising / studying throughout the year.

The fact is you got a commendation, which is great don't get me wrong, but in hindsight could have been achieved with far less work (and I can testify to this).

My advice to you, especially if you have a TC already lined up, is not to bore yourself with working your way into the ground on the LPC. It is a very bland year and I have never ever heard anyone mention their mark once they have started their TC. It really will not be looked at on your CV!

You could argue that as is more practical it will help you when you start work. But I can honestly say that anything I have ever done during my TC has had to be looked up and explained, even if I think I can remember everything about it from the LPC. Laws change so when you come to do something complicated, you will need to look at how it has been done previously and/or the law as it currently stands. Your LPC notes are effectively useless after the year!

I am not having a dig, but just saying that you can either aggressively go for that distinction or enjoy the final year of your youth where you have free time before 6/7pm in the evening. Once working you are tired during the week and inevitably going to have to work late a lot of the time. No point killing yourself over a pointless year no one ever mentions again - I am only speaking from experience...

Dear anonymous

Thanks for your kind words, I'll try to keep up the entertainment to relieve your boredom at work. ;-)

I totally agree with you on one count - I could have got a commendation with less work. However, you seem to have missed the point. I didn't WANT a commendation. I wanted a distinction. If I had only been happy with a commendation I wouldn't have bothered doing half as much work. In terms of exams it worked out - I did very well in those. Just my coursework marks let me down. So all the revision was certainly worth it.

Further to that, yes I have a job lined up, but again you seem to have missed the point. The grades aren't for my CV - they're for me. I don't intend to walk around during my TC telling everyone how well I did, it's only to prove to myself that I can do it. And I enjoy studying - if you look at the posts around revision time, you will notice that only once did I mention being tired. I loved that time, learning all the stuff, drawing my little diagrams. Ok so having a social life again is also quite nice but I don't resent having spent that time doing all that work for my exams. Like I said, that part paid off, it was only the coursework that was the problem!

In any case, I have no intention of working myself to the ground during the LPC so don't worry! I have heard it's pretty mundane and I'm not planning on spending my life in the library. (For the record I didn't do this during my GDL either, only during revision). I had a different career before the GDL so I know all about proper working, and I did use to have to work pretty long hours so it'll be nothing new during my TC, so I'll definitely be making the most of the free time!
